Dental Examinations Executive

One exam, three colleges

The new MFDS is a single tri-collegiate exam, set and delivered jointly by RCS England, RCS Edinburgh and RCPS Glasgow through the Dental Examinations Executive. When you pass, you join the college you choose.

New Part 2: pass both areas

You’re marked on communication and on clinical decision-making, and you must pass each one. Strength in one can’t carry the other, so we work on both.

My mentor knew all the formats and the differences between them, and made sure I knew them too.

Questions

MFDS Part 2 FAQs

Can I start with the portal and upgrade later?

Yes. Move to a Fast Track or Complete Circuit within 14 days and your full £125 comes off the price.

What if I don’t make it?

Portal access extends at £50 per 6 months, in line with our extension policy.

When are the MFDS Part 2 exam dates for 2026 and 2027?

The new tri-collegiate MFDS Part 2 starts in spring 2027. RCS England’s final legacy sittings are November 2026 and March 2027, and Edinburgh/Glasgow legacy diets run through 2026 and early 2027. Tell us your route and we’ll plan your circuit around it.

Does the course follow the MFDS Part 2 syllabus?

Yes. Stations and frameworks map to the current MFDS Part 2 curriculum, aligned to SDCEP and BDA guidance.

What should I expect on MFDS Part 2 exam day?

Our Candidate Handbook walks you through the day: arrival, how the stations flow, how marking and the pass mark work, and the dress code for each centre.

Can I get MFDS Part 1 access too?

Yes. MFDS Part 1 is a separate, complete package with timed mock papers, the latest guidelines and the feedback that helped our students pass in 2026. It’s £99 for 12 months’ access or until you pass, whichever comes first, or £79 for AceDent Part 2 candidates.

How long is each session?

Each one-to-one session is about 90 minutes, on UK time, and can run longer if you need it, as we work through a set number of cases in every session.

When can I start?

As soon as you enrol. Every session is one-to-one, so there’s no waiting for a group or a fixed course date. We book your first session around your exam date.

What is the new MFDS Part 2 format in 2027?

From spring 2027 the tri-collegiate MFDS Part 2 is a 14-station OSCE of about 10 minutes per station, each overseen by an examiner. Some stations use actors as patients or dental team; others involve the examiner directly. You must pass both content areas: communication/history taking and clinical judgement/professional practice. A pass in the new MFDS Part 1 is needed.

How is the legacy MFDS Part 2 different?

Edinburgh and Glasgow run 10 examined actor stations of 8 minutes plus 2 minutes reading. RCS England uses a mix of viva and actor OSCE stations, with final legacy sittings in November 2026 and March 2027.
